The following story took place after Maharaji left his body (Mahasamadhi). People who were with him while he was in his physical body and those who never met him are still experiencing his care and protection. Many continue to have his darshan in form and in dreams. In 1973 Braj Kishore Tandon of Haldwani was sitting with Baba in Kainchi when Baba said to him, “You get your son married.” Tandon replied, “I am ready, provided that you promise to attend the marriage.” Baba gave his consent with a smile. In September of the same year, Baba took read more →

Shifting the Perception of Suffering

The way in which you are part of the web of life, of incarnation, is around the dimensions, you could call it, of compassion, suffering or dealing with suffering. That when you have a society that is built on the denial of other people’s suffering, for the myths of the society to be lived out, you have a very frightened society, and you have all the pathology that comes from fear. And what is the fear is that people are afraid to look at. read more →

The Power of the Beloved

All methods are traps. In my relation to my guru, at first my love was so strong, all I wanted to do was rub his feet and look at his form and just be around him. Then, as time went on, not that the love grew less, the love grew different, until I was very fulfilled just being at a distance in relation to him. It kept growing deeper and deeper until I really didn’t care whether I was with his form anymore. read more →

Conditions in the West

This article is from a Ram Dass lecture that took place in 1976. It can be argued that much of the “upleveling” of spiritual consciousness described here is still taking place in the West. Like many of Ram Dass’ words, this description of the spiritual state of the U.S. applies just as much to current.. read more →

I Crochet

I think people awaken originally to a spiritual dimension in their life in an incredibly wide variety of ways. The Consciousness of Saints

Where do you feel that saints or realized beings fit into the evolution of consciousness, and what part do they play in the scheme of things, both inside the body and out of the body?  Ram Dass: All beings are involved in an evolutionary journey. In the course of history, and far into pre-recorded history,.. read more →

Blessing Our Food As Part of God

Before I eat, I bless my food. For many people, saying grace in childhood was a time of impatience when adults were controlling the situation, but I’ve discovered that it can become a moment to reawaken a living truth. When I get food, I hold the food up or sit with my hands beside my.. read more →

Giving Up Isn’t Failing

My stepmother Phyllis and I went to the doctors together and we did the whole thing of getting all the reports and dealing with all the emotions. Now she was a very tough New England lady. She was wonderful, grounded, tough, poker-playing, smoking, just fun. She was argumentative and tough and willful. She had.. read more →

A Heavy Curriculum

If somebody is a problem for you, it’s not that they should change, it’s that you need to change. If they’re a problem for themselves that’s their karma, if they’re causing you trouble that’s your problem on yourself. So, in other words when Christ is crucified, he says “forgive them, they don’t know what.. read more →
