BIPOC Satsang: Belonging Together
September 16 @ 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm PDT
The need to belong is inherent to being human. We are a social species, whose very survival throughout time has been predicated on cooperation and community. Not just with our fellow humans, but with the entirety of the living world around us. Sub ek. All one. However, the powers that be are those that flourished during the Kali Yuga. The fascists, racists, xenophobes, imperialists, and colonizers — work tirelessly to make us forget this. To separate us from Nature, the Other, and even from our very Selves; all of whom we know, according to Ram Dass, are simply God in drag.
This feeling of separation and disbelonging is felt even more acutely for those of us living within a BIPOC incarnation this time around. For we are often made to feel as though our very existence in this world isn’t justified. How might we, as people of color, decolonize our minds, hearts, and souls in a manner that not only combats the stratification of our communities but also allows us to find belonging in this world? In a manner that reminds us that no matter what happens around us, we always have a quiet place to dwell in belonging in God’s heart. And it is Maharajii, our Guru, once told us that God, Guru, and Self are one in the same. Thus we come together this month to remind ourselves in togetherness, that the belonging we are seeking, both as individuals and as a collective, is as far away as our next heartbeat. Right here. Right now.
