SUMMARY:LOVE\, FAMILY & BHAV: Celebrating the release of "The Bhav of KK Sah" with Raghu Markus\, Krishna Das & Rameshwar Das
DESCRIPTION: \n  \nClick Here to order The Bhav of KK Sah as CD Digipak or Audio Download.\nThe devotional aspect of kirtan and bhajan is a deep inheritance given by KK Sah\, who had been with Maharaj-ji since he was a small child and passed only a few weeks after Ram Dass left his body. KK was a bridge of grace\, welcoming westerns with unbounded generosity that allowed them to connect to Maharaj-ji. He showed a purity of heart that involved unconditional love\, the dynamics of Indian family love\, and an expression of love found in the yoga of devotion\, known as bhav. He helped Ram Dass and the Satsang not only understand bhav\, but gave them practices to share it with others. In this livestream\, Raghu Markus\, Krishna Das and Rameshwar Das will share the extraordinary experiences and gifts given by KK Sah\, and release this keepsake album\, The Bhav of KK Sah. \n\nRaghu Markus spent two years in India with Maharaji and Ram Dass. He has been involved in music and transformational media since the early 1970s when he was program director of CKGM-FM in Montreal. In 1974 he collaborated with Ram Dass on the box set Love Serve Remember. In 1990 he launched Triloka Records and Karuna Music in Los Angeles\, California. Triloka established itself as a critical leader in the development of world music and for 17 years was home to such artists as Krishna Das\, Hugh Masekela\, Walela\, Jai Uttal and transformational media projects that featured Ram Dass\, Deepak Chopra\, and Les Nubians. Currently he is the Executive Director of the Love Serve Remember Foundation and his Mindrolling Podcast is part of the Be Here Now Network. \n\nRameshwar Das met Ram Dass in 1968 soon after his return from India\, and learned yoga and meditation from him. He traveled to India and spent time with Neem Karoli Baba from 1970-1972. His working life has been primarily as a photographer\, including freelance work for the New York Times and other publications. He taught photography and photo-journalism\, and also worked as an environmentalist and writer.Ramesh collaborated on several projects with Ram Dass including the original collection of manuscripts that became ‘Be Here Now’ and the ‘Love Serve Remember’ box set of recordings. He is the co-author of Ram Dass’s newer books\, ‘Be Love Now’ and ‘Polishing the Mirror’\, and most recently Ram Dass’s memoir\, ‘Being Ram Dass’. \n\n  \nLayering traditional kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation\, Krishna Das spent the late ’60’s traveling across the country as a student of Ram Dass\, eventually leading him to his guru\, Neem Karoli Baba. KD now travels the world sharing his kirtan practice and stories of the Path. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Random Rab // EarthCry Join the Soul Land Music Series
DESCRIPTION:Emerging from his own distinct corner of the West Coast electronic music scene\, Random Rab offers a powerful and unique contribution to sonic exploration. Often referred to as “The Master of Emotion” his music is patently beautiful and melodic. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer\, his tracks are organic\, uplifting and stand on their own as a distinct genre. \nEarthCry is Anthony of Papadosio’s secondary musical project\, serving as an outlet for his more electronic musical ideas\, as well as a place to try experimental genre-mashing\, developmental frequency blending\, and odd instrument combinations. Staying true to live roots\, an EarthCry show can consist of any combination of live instruments\, mixing\, slicing\, looping\, and cutting overtop of arrangements that come out differently every time.

SUMMARY:"What’s Love Got to Do With It?" - A Live Event with David Nichtern
DESCRIPTION: \nLove and compassion are the foundation of every major religion including Buddhism\, of course. Perhaps the Buddhist “secret sauce” is conjoining love and even bliss with emptiness – a concept that is often misconstrued as nihilistic. Essentially emptiness is a way of saying that there is no fixed\, permanent structure or container for all that warmth\, affection; sympathy and interdependence that are essential elements of our basic being. There is nothing to hang on to and no one to hang on – or as Ram Dass would put it – “becoming nobody“. \nOne of the original American students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche\, David’s journey has crisscrossed with the Maharaji/Ram Dass sangha for decades. He has produced multiple KD albums and frequently joins the Bhaktettes live on guitar. He considers himself to be a first cousin and honorary member of the Bhakti community! \nIn addition to talking about\, everything\, everybody\, nothing and nobody\, David will be sharing some stories about his experience of the intersection of the worlds of Trungpa Rinpoche and Ram Dass\, including the early days in the 1970s right up to the present\, and David’s work with the Maui Retreats over the past decade. \nThe workshop will include a dharma-ish talk by David\, open discussion\, and meditation practice. \n\nAbout David\nDavid Nichtern is a senior Buddhist teacher\, founder and CEO of Dharma Moon\, a BHNN Podcaster\, author of Awakening From the Daydream and Creativity\, Spirituality & Making a Buck\, and producer and guitarist for Krishna Das. He is a 4-time Emmy Award Winner\, two-time Grammy nominee\, and has worked with Jerry Garcia\, Stevie Wonder\, Christopher Guest\, Paul Simon\, and Lana Del Rey among many others. He is the composer of the classic song Midnight at the Oasis. \nOne of the original American students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche\, David’s journey has criss-crossed with the Maharaji/Ram Dass sangha for decades. He is indeed a wallah from another mala. \nFor more on David:\nwww.davidnichtern.com\nwww.dharmamoon.com

SUMMARY:Nina Rao // Kripa Join the Soul Land Music Series
DESCRIPTION:Nina Rao learned traditional chants (bhajans) from her grandfather in a village in south India when she nine years old. The chants quietly stayed with her until she rediscovered chanting with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. For many years Nina has been Krishna Das’ business manager and accompanies him musically as well. In addition to several record releases\, Nina regularly leads kirtan\, workshops\, and retreats in her hometown of Brooklyn\, New York and beyond. \nKripa is a Kirtan (devotional music) group that formed out of the love of Ram Dass\, Neem Karoli Baba\, Siddhi Ma\, and Hanuman and inspired by their central teachings of “Love\, Service\, Remembrance\, and Truth.” As former caregivers of Ram Dass\, they are deeply committed to the wide accessibility of Kirtan and Bhakti Yoga\, working to lower the barriers of access to contemplative and devotional practices through affordable\, free\, and donation-based offerings and prison outreach. \nView the rest of this season’s Soul Land Music Series lineup here.

SUMMARY:Devotion & Prayers\, Healing "Hungry Ghosts" - A Live Event with John Lockley
DESCRIPTION: \n\n  \nRam Dass was the embodiment of devotion & prayer. At his retreats\, you would often see him quietly chanting ‘ram\, ram\, ram’ whilst working with his mala beads. He would also give of himself tirelessly\, despite the limitations of his body. \nIn a world mad with consumerism and technology\, many people are searching for ways home to spirit. By addressing the “hungry ghosts” of the craving/ wanting energy inside us\, and replacing it with a spiritual practice that involves prayer\, devotion\, and gratitude\, we can wake up and create space for all life to thrive. Join traditional African shaman John Lockley in a down-to-earth chat about ‘Ubuntu’ teachings from South Africa. (Ubuntu means ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’\, indicating we are all products of our communities.) John will perform some live African trance drumming & chanting to get people into the devotional & prayerful zone. Join us for an African journey towards love & togetherness \n\nAbout John Lockley\n“My journey is about reconciliation and part of my job is to help heal the past. When people are more connected with their own spirits\, there is less of a desire to destroy or put down another. I don’t intend to bring Xhosa or South African shamanic culture to the West as such\, but rather to use its essence – the techniques of prayer\, dream work\, and connection to nature – to help people connect with their own ancestors and spiritual traditions.” – John Lockley \nJohn is one of the first white men\, in recent history\, to become a fully initiated sangoma in the Xhosa lineage of South Africa. \nJohn was born in 1971\, into a divided Apartheid South Africa\, with the mark of the sangoma on his face – a band of white birth skin around the eyes. At 18\, John was serving in the South African army as a medic (during the war with Angola in the 1980s) when he had a strong\, prophetic dream calling him to train as a Xhosa sangoma. He immediately began to suffer from the thwasa\, a severe period of ill-health that is inherent in all ancient shamanic cultures which can only be cured through apprenticeship to a shamanic teacher. Because of the restrictions of Apartheid (which ended in 1994) it would take John seven years to find a Xhosa teacher. \nDuring the early days of his calling he trained as a Zen student under renowned Zen Master\, Su Bong\, completing an intensive three-month kyol che in a Buddhist monastery in South Korea. He was then invited by the Grand Master Dae Soen Sa Nim to join his “monk army”\, but the strength of his sangoma calling drew him back to South Africa. \nEventually\, post-Apartheid\, John met Mum Ngwevu\, a well-known Xhosa sangoma medicine woman\, in one of the poorest townships in South Africa. She had foreseen his arrival in a dream and began his 10-year apprenticeship\, giving him the initiated name Ucingolwendaba\, meaning messenger or connector between people and cultures. \nFor the last 10 years he has been facilitating ‘Ubuntu’ (Humanity) and Way of the Leopard retreats worldwide\, teaching people how they can reconnect to their Ancestors\, Spirit and the Earth. His book ‘Leopard Warrior’ and audio Teachings ‘Way of the Leopard’ are both produced by Sounds True and available for purchase in most leading book stores. \nFor more on John and his work and teachings:\nhttps://www.johnlockley.com/

SUMMARY:John Forté // Rising Appalachia // Marti Nikko and DJ Drez Join the Soul Land Music Series
DESCRIPTION:Grammy-nominated recording artist\, filmmaker\, writer\, and activist John Forté was first recognized for his work with multi-platinum hip-hop group The Fugees. Since then\, Forté has been involved in a number of creative and advocacy-based projects. As a classically trained hip-hop and pop veteran\, Forté blends sleek rhythms and catchy hooks\, in the process turning some difficult life experiences into introspective\, ultimately uplifting music. \nSisters Leah & Chloe and their beloved band\, Rising Appalachia\, use vocal harmonies\, acoustic instruments\, and world folk traditions to build a foundation of soul sounds. \nRising Appalachia is a genre-bending force of sound that uses vocal harmony\, lyrical prowess and diverse artistic collaborations to defy cultural clichés and ignite a musical revolution…Listen for sister harmonies\, world folks traditions\, banjos\, fiddles\, stand up bass\, acoustic guitar\, and a host of pan-global percussion \nThe daughter of a jazz pianist\, Marti Nikko spent her childhood in nightclubs\, absorbing the art and wisdom of many great musicians. Marti met DJ Drez shortly after high school\, when they began performing and recording together. Over two decades\, their collaboration has become an intimate musical language that effortlessly translates into and between many styles of music\, including hip hop\, reggae\, kirtan\, jazz and soul. \nDJ Drez transforms the vibe of any scene his sound is set upon. Rooted in underground L.A. hip-hop\, Drez applies precise turn-table skills to a cutting-edge vision for truly universal music\, integrating elements of hip-hop\, world music\, soul\, funk\, jazz\, and reggae into his trademark sound and production. \nIndia is suffering from a devastating Covid crisis\, and we encourage our community to help to provide oxygen and other lifesaving supplies to those in urgent need by donating here. Humanity First Foundation\, a small organization founded by Mohammed Shujatullah\, is determined to help people in the city of Hyderabad get oxygen cylinders and fight the second wave of this deadly virus.

SUMMARY:The Power of Yin: A Live Event with Jamie Catto
DESCRIPTION: \n“Jamie and I are like-minded souls. I appreciate the truth of his reflections.” – Ram Dass\nJamie’s mission is to make self-reflection hip enough to save us from ourselves. We believe that by collectively acknowledging our insanity and our deepest darkest shadows\, we can learn how to work with it to tackle global crisis’ by channeling our energy into action for the world rather than using it all up on fighting ourselves. In doing so\, we give each other permission to let our masks fall and focus on what’s really important. \nWhen looking at the Power of Yin we turn to gentle tools to allay our overworking imaginations\, a light playfulness to retain the aura of quietude\, and a sweet acquiesce to the waves of life. We learn how to forge our paths through the forest of worry and anxiety\, out into the vista of peace\, And we learn to conciliate our misguided egos in order to embody peace for the world. \nAbout Jamie\nJamie Catto is the director of the 2019 film Becoming Nobody\, the quintessential portal to Ram Dass’s life and teachings. He is an author and musician running transformational workshops and events to reclaim all the treasure we edited away into the shadows and facilitate everyone daring to be more real\, more fallible\, more tender\, more intimate. \nHis mission is to create a world full of ‘walking permission slips’ where we all lighten up and enjoy the unpredictable human path together with humor\, playfulness\, and a healthy dose of irreverence. Jamie’s workshops and 1-1s provide a refreshing approach to inner work with the right dose of playfulness and depth.
