I’m so glad I listened to this episode. I have heard and read the story of the bus trip to Delhi many, many times. I think the first time I heard it I was listening to Krishna Das’ teaching program Pilgrim of the Heart, published by Sounds True. Each time I heard or read the story, the person telling it (whether KD or Ram Dass) would ask the question – “so who was making the choice?” or something to that effect. I always interpreted the question as implying that somehow Maharaji forced Ram Dass’ hand – that he wanted to see the Westerners and somehow made RD make the decision the way he wanted it made. (Possibly this was influenced by KD referring to Maharaji as “the great puppet master” who was “pulling all the strings of all the puppets”, at least, that’s what he said in that particular recording.) Always really bugged me, and I would wonder why it couldn’t be interpreted as Maharaji knowing ahead of time the choice that RD would make himself- pretty mind blowing still, but my ego liked that interpretation better, as it still allowed for the possibility of “free choice”. Listening today, I heard for the first time Ram Dass’ discussion of “free choice” as it relates to the conditioned nature of our mind, and all the interrelationships, and so on and had one of those “Ohhh, okay” kinds of moments – some clarity in place of confusion and disturbance. Very helpful. I have all of the books about Maharaji – Miracle of Love. Divine Reality, and both of Dada’s books – and I’m so grateful to have them – but still no replacement for hearing spoken teachings like this. Thank you, so much. Ram, Ram.
AWESOME…….TO HEAR AN OBSERVATION I FELT ALL MY LIFE SEARCHING ,HOW/WHY MY THOUGHTS FEEL SO INTER-RELATED…TO THINK IN MY KRIYA YOGA PATH OF LATE, ACCELERATED SOME SITUATIONS IN MY LIFE THAT SEEMINGLY MIGHT BE CONSIDERED A BAD DEAL TO OCCUR, ARE PERHAPS LIFE UNFOLDING IN ITS NEW POSSIBILITY TO LEAD ME UNTO A DIFFERENT PATH NOT OF WHAT MY CURRENT FREE WILL PLANNED……….QAUNTUM MECHANICS AND ALL THE POSSIBILITIES EXISTING AT ONCE…..WHOS WHO???
I saw a licence plate on a car once that saud ” I R U U R I. So Who Is Who And what is the real question?When they were on the bus and then, made the turn and Karoli Neem Baba was expecting them, what really happened? Do we “think” that the reason was this or that? Or do we listen to the open heart for the answer? RD wants to Be “In Love” and his yeacher was that too. Love Is All There Is — I feel that to be true. Love went to where Love resided. I can feel that gentle pull sometimes in a calm moment. And my heart seems to know just what to do. Maybe I`m not right in this. I`m not sure. But I just thought I`d throw it into the mix…..What to you think?
