Frequently Asked Questions
Who was Ram Dass?
Ram Dass was born Richard Alpert in 1931 and became one of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th century. A Harvard psychology professor in the 1960s, he conducted groundbreaking research on consciousness with Timothy Leary before traveling to India, where he met his guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji). This encounter transformed his life and led him to become Ram Dass, meaning “servant of God.” His 1971 book “Be Here Now” became a counterculture classic and introduced Eastern spirituality to Western audiences. For over 50 years, he taught about consciousness, love, service, and the spiritual path, touching millions of lives with his humor, honesty, and profound wisdom. He passed away in 2019, leaving behind a rich legacy of teachings that continue to guide seekers today through his Love Serve Remember Foundation.
