REWATCH THE EVENT BELOW!
John Forté is a Grammy-nominated recording artist, a filmmaker, and an activist, who features the teachings of his spiritual guide, Ram Dass on his new album, Vessels, Angels & Ancestors. Please join us as we explore our relationship to Ram Dass, the man, and his philosophy, in four phases:
II. Reception and Resonance
John Forté is a Grammy-nominated recording artist, activist, filmmaker, and writer. First known for his work with The Fugees, Forté wrote and produced songs for their 1996 multi-platinum album The Score.
From albums, films, soundtracks, and fashion shows to The Brooklyn Nets theme song, creative direction for cannabis brands, scores for broadcast television, and social justice campaigns, John’s art has always complemented powerful and impactful storytelling.
John’s lived experience and activism go hand-in-hand, as seen in his unyielding support for criminal justice reform initiatives rooted in ending mass incarceration and systemic injustices. He has performed at The White House numerous times during the Obama administration and has contributed his voice and music to Time Done, the Schools Not Prisons tour, Vote for Justice, and most recently, Californians for Safety and Justice’s Progress not Prisons campaign.
John is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and briefly attended NYU and the London School of Economics. He lives on Martha’s Vineyard with his extraordinarily talented photographer wife, Lara, and their two precious children.
John’s latest album, Vessels, Angels & Ancestors is transcendent and representative of the spiritual shift in consciousness. In releasing this album with Ram Dass’ Soul Land Records he again demonstrates his willingness to explore partnership and community, no matter how surprising or seemingly unlikely.
