“What’s Love Got to Do With It?” – A Live Event with David Nichtern

Love and compassion are the foundation of every major religion including Buddhism, of course. Perhaps the Buddhist “secret sauce” is conjoining love and even bliss with emptiness – a concept that is often misconstrued as nihilistic. Essentially emptiness is a way of saying that there is no fixed, permanent structure or container for all that warmth, affection; sympathy and interdependence that are essential elements of our basic being. There is nothing to hang on to and no one to hang on – or as Ram Dass would put it – “becoming nobody“.
One of the original American students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, David’s journey has crisscrossed with the Maharaji/Ram Dass sangha for decades. He has produced multiple KD albums and frequently joins the Bhaktettes live on guitar. He considers himself to be a first cousin and honorary member of the Bhakti community!
In addition to talking about, everything, everybody, nothing and nobody, David will be sharing some stories about his experience of the intersection of the worlds of Trungpa Rinpoche and Ram Dass, including the early days in the 1970s right up to the present, and David’s work with the Maui Retreats over the past decade.
The workshop will include a dharma-ish talk by David, open discussion, and meditation practice.
About David
David Nichtern is a senior Buddhist teacher, founder and CEO of Dharma Moon, a BHNN Podcaster, author of Awakening From the Daydream and Creativity, Spirituality & Making a Buck, and producer and guitarist for Krishna Das. He is a 4-time Emmy Award Winner, two-time Grammy nominee, and has worked with Jerry Garcia, Stevie Wonder, Christopher Guest, Paul Simon, and Lana Del Rey among many others. He is the composer of the classic song Midnight at the Oasis.
